Street Chic

I recently thought about following the trend of recent magazines and take photos of stylish New Yorkers going about their daily life. However I'm actually an introvert extrovert so, while I'm outgoing, I can be very shy and I wasn't one hundred percent sold on the idea of going up to strangers, and asking to take their photo.

While having dinner with friends I thought, hey these are a pretty fashionable bunch! How lucky for me! So I got out my Blackberry Curve and put on my photographer hat. Excuse the quality of the photos, this was very spur of the moment. Never the less FAB! Check it out. >
Dice Suzuki is wearing jeans by Edwin. A two pocket oxford shirt purchased on the UK ASOS.com site topped with a Calvin Klein hat. My most favorite accessory Dice is wearing is the belt wallet combo. The vintage studded belt is by Beth Frank only 400 were manufactured and his "Riders Long Wallet" is handmade by Japanese company KC Leather and Craft on internet site Rakuten.co.jp
How hot!

Escada files for Bankruptcy

Restructuring plan rejected by bondholders Thursday, August 13, 2009(NEW YORK) Troubled fashion house Escada may be in its last days of existence. After months of searching for a financial solution, the company has filed for bankruptcy this morning, Bloomberg reports. A month ago, Escada chairman Bruno Saelzer said that the company only had enough liquidity to last through August, though a state-aided bailout plan was proposed. Escada asked investors to forego over half of their investments in a bond swap to exchange €200 million in seven-year bonds by the end of July, to earn support from its banks. At least 80% of bond holders had to agree to plan for it to be passed, and reportedly only received such backing from about half its investors. The thirty-three-year-old company, as of this afternoon, had a market value of only 20.7 million euros, having lost 72% of its share value in the last three days. It appears inevitable that the company will cease trading.

Vogue Documentary

Wednesday marks the date of the premiere of, quite possibly, the most talked (and blogged!) about fashion documentary ever, R.J. Cutler's The September Issue. Anna will most certainly be in attendance at the Maybelline-sponsored showing, along with, hopefully, tout les Voguettes--Candy Pratts Price, Virginia Smith, André Leon Talley, and (fingers crossed) Grace Coddington. No word on whether or not Sienna Miller, the covergirl of the September issue of the film, or Charlize Theron, 2009's September beauty, will be making appearances...but if they do, we can only imagine the blonde showdown that will perfectly cap off the week's glam screenings showdown

Legit Way to Get into Fashion Week

While last year I was quite lucky to attend The Tents, because of the fab company I worked for. I will confess, as a teen obsessed with fashion and growing up in New York, I've snuck into a show or two in the past. Hey, I had no problem with faking it until I made it. With this years Fashion Week being just a few weeks ahead. I wanted to provide some ligit ways to attend the shows if you arent a celeb, socialite, fashion editor.

Let's assume you're not a model, an A-list celebrity or Tim Gunn, but you'd still like to get into Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Technically, the entire run of catwalk shows under the tents at Bryant Park is closed to the public. But that's not entirely true. The NewYorkology travel blog has found more than one way to buy your way into the tents. One way in is with the W Hotels Catwalk package, which gets a pair of VIP passes into one runway show, plus a suite at W Hotel on Union Square or on Lexington. Passes are still available to shows including Miss Sixty and Tracy Reese. The hotel package is priced at $799. Another way in is through the American Express entertainment packages, available only to American Express cardholders. Remaining tickets for those packages are $250 each. Elsewhere, American Express is offering its platinum cardholders a private Diane von Furstenberg Fashion Show, with tickets priced at $150 each.

E-Shop Til You Drop

E-Shop 'Til You Drop

Alexander Wang, Martin Katz, and Michael Angel launch e-commerce sites
(NEW YORK) Brace your credit cards: as though you don't spend enough time browsing the web for new wardrobe must-haves, three designers have just jumped on the e-commerce bandwagon. On Wednesday, Alexander Wang's website will introduce a shopping section, offering his ready-to-wear, along with his coveted bags and shoes and his T by Alexander Wang line. As of now, it's just for the ladies-although come spring 2010, his foray into menswear will also be available. Martin Katz, a favorite jewelry designer of the likes of Freida Pinto and Jessica Biel, has just launched the e-commerce portion of his website, where shoppers can pick up his signature diamond and gemstond micro bands (prepare yourselves: prices start at $2,400). Finally, Aussie designer Michael Angel's graphic shift dresses, tanks, and legging have just become available at michaelangelshop.net

Louis Vuitton Chopsticks

No one knows where to find these, but everyone wants a pair. We’re talking about the Louis Vuitton VIP Chopsticks Set that go for a cool $450–and make your eel sushi taste that much more chic. Each set comes in a Monogram Plexi-glass and includes four sticks. To our knowledge, these are not sold in stores just yet…though Russian billionaires always have a way of getting their hands on indulgences such as these.

What styles are included: "Everything before fall and spring '09," an Hermes specialist reported. "We have a lot of back stock and they worked out with Hermes that we could put some styles on sale.

For those fluent in Hermes scarf talk, the following styles are just a few included in the discount: House of Characters, Mosaic, Lights of Paris, Walk in the Park, Golf Balls, Moroccan Saddle and Mogul.

To the Tents!

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week to showcase Derek Lam, Isaac Mizrahi, Tory Burch, Doo.Ri and more at Bryant Park

(NEW YORK) Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is nearly two months away, but the show schedule is already looking quite packed. Derek Lam has just confirmed that he will be showing in The Tents at Bryant Park on September 13 at 11 a.m.. This marks the designer's first show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. He is only one of several A-list designers to return to the venue this season. Narciso Rodriguez, Willow, Jen Kao, Tuleh, and Vivienne Tam, who have shown at various gallery spaces over the last several seasons, are also rumored to be returning to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Other Tents newcomers allegedly include Doo.Ri and Isaac Mizrahi. Tory Burch, who has traditionally presented her collection at her West Side showroom, has opted to show her first full-fledged runway show at Bryant Park. These designers will join Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week flagship brands such as Carolina Herrera, Diane von Furstenberg, BCBG, Michael Kors, Badgley Mischka. Tommy Hilfiger is expected to close the week with a Thursday night show celebrating his 25th anniversary as well as the opening of his new global flagship store at 681 Fifth Avenue. "We couldn't be more excited to welcome Isaac, Derek, Tory, Doo-Ri, and so many others to the Tents this season," said Fern Mallis, senior vice president of IMG Fashion. "In these times, designers are realizing that showing at Bryant Park is the way to go when they need to make the best possible impression." Many designers are still finalizing plans, and IMG Fashion expects to announce more additions to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week throughout July and August. "The economy is tough," Mallis conceded, "But come September, Bryant Park is going to rock."

Lacroix Savior?

Lacroix Saviour?

21 July 2009

CHRISTIAN LACROIX may be about to be rescued from bankruptcy, it was reported today. The couture-led luxury label, which entered administration last month is rumoured to have received a bail-out bid by restructuring firm Bernard Krief Consultants.

Christian Lacroix showed a reduced collection at Paris Couture Week earlier this month and - if the buy-out fails - Lacroix's owner, Falic Group, could initiate a dramatic restructuring plan which could see the workforce of 124 artisans slashed to just 12, Drapers Online reports. Bernard Krief Consultants - who attempted to purchase French fashion group Morgan when it entered administration - is expected to table its formal bid for Lacroix in a week's time.

A Big Night's in Store!

On Sept. 10th, NYC retailers will throw an all star bash for local shoppers

One shot to get shopper back to the racks? That's the idea behind Fashions Night Out. On September 10th from 6pm to 11pm., retailers across the city will host in store events -from live music to special appearances- to lure consumers who have been hesitant to spend in this economic climate.

We want Fashion's Night Out to get people back to having fun when they shop. Shopping shouldn't be depressing ." says Steven Kilb, executive director of the Council of fashion Designers of America. The CFDA is heading up the effort, along with NYC & Company, the City of New York and Vogue magazine. And though 300 local retailers like Bloomingdale's, William Rast and Jimmy Choo are already participating, Kolb hopes to recruit even more businesses throughout the five boroughs before Aug. 1 deadline.

"The night is about forgetting the competitive part of the industry and coming together as a community to show people what we have to offer, whether its a big chain or a small boutique," Kolb adds.
On the bill so far; Macy's will host a special appearance by designer Rachel Roy at its flagship Herald Square store, while the other seven NYC locations feature entertainment and fashion shows.
Bloomingdale's at 59th street will open a tribute to Hollywood heavyweights in an art exhibit, " leading Ladies and Leading men of the Silver Screen."
And Lord & Taylor will host a meet and greet with the hunks of the FDNY 2010 calender, proceeds of which will benefit the Staten Island University Hospital Burn Center.

But the festivities, which top the first day of New York Fashion Week, aren't just about the clothing industry.

Once we are registered, retailers have the option to sell the official Fashion's Night Out shirt, and 40% of the proceeds go to benefit the National September 11th Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center ," says Kolb.

There will also be a citywide clothing drive for NYC AIDS Fund; drop locations will be announced soon.

H&M Fall 2009 Ad Campaign

FIRST LOOK: Sasha Pivovarova for H&M Fall 2009

First look images of the H&M Fall 2009 ad campaign featuring Sasha Pivovarova shot by Terry Richardson, and also another campaign pic of Eniko Mihalik. This dress is currently in H&M stores, or at least the same style but in a different material. So excited for Fall!

TopShop Fall 2009 Collection

The lookbook from Topshop’s fall 2009 collection are slowly leaking out to the blogsphere. The collections include Horror Girls, Marianne, Manhattan Girl and Highland Fling. Each unique to their own, has a different theme, texture, color and style. My favorite being Marianne and Manhattan Girl.
Horror Girls is a quirky take on Hammer House of Horror movie dressing. The collection plays with cobweb-esque gothic lace and crushed velvet jacket lines. Materials are inspired by Victorian nightwear for blouses and corsets while shirts and jeans are inspired by 80s denim.
Mahattan Girl uses exaggerated shapes and show-stopping colours, fabrics and textures such as leopard print t-shirts adorned with gold studs and gem stones. The blend is such that these flashy outfits could be worn during the day.
Marianne collection is a fusion of vintage glamour and grunge, inspired from 70s groupies and dress-up box feel. It contains luxurious fabrics made to look antique such as tarnished sequins and matted faux fur. It has extravagant material mostly dark but with occasional bright splashes.
Highland Fling combines classic tartans in oversized black watch check but with a modern twist. The full Scotland themed collection includes Fair Isle patterned luxurious knitwear, quilted nature coloured casual coats and brushed cotton check shirts
