While at every award show, there will always be some fashion hits and misses, I particularly enjoy the Golden Globes red carpet because it gives the stars an opportunity to be a little more playful and take some risk with their wardrobe selections while still giving head on glamour.
Every year, certain trends dominate the red carpet, and in years past we've seen grecian inspire gowns, ruffle hemlines and jewel tone ensembles set the award season tone. This year we take a look at what new red carpet trends are emerging. Have a look;
Floor length sleeved sequin gowns with a vintage feel.
Angelina Jolie in Versace.
Anne Hathaway in Giorgio Armani Privé gown and ring from Van Cleef & Arpels. One of my favorites of the night.
Gabourey Sidibe Marc Bouwer dress and Martin Katz jewelry.
Sheer peek-a-boos and overlays
Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad
Jayma Mays, black Alberta Ferretti gown
Halle Berry lingerie-inspired Nina Ricci gown
Kaley Cuoco in champagne colored ruffle gown by Catherine Kidd, jewels by Chopard
Always classic and a staple at all award shows, neutral and stone colored gowns effortless and always flattering.
Vanessa William wearing a vintage pink sequined one shoulder Roberto Cavalli gown.
Scarlett Johansson in Elie Saab
Natalie Portman inViktor & Rolf gown
Leighton Meester Long-sleeved Burberry Gown
Julie Bowen in Tadashi Shoji
Sarah Hyland in vintage look Max Azria Atelier gown
Green with envy
Mila Kunis in Vera Wang
Elisabeth Moss custom Donna Karan gown
Catherine Zeta-Jones emerald green gathered Monique Lhuillier strapless gown
While most would save the best for last, my blown away favorite dress of the evening actually arrived first on E!'s red carpet. This phenomenal Marchesa gown worn by Olivia Wilde gives us a little of all the trends (floor length, jeweled and tulle overlay) of the night synthesized into one extraordinary chocolate gown and a surprise studded Christian Louboutin studded bootie. The epitome of Punk & Privilege.
