Hermes Scarves 40% off

Who needs to wait on a three hour line to get into an Hermes sample sale when Bergdorf Goodman is discounting Hermes scarves 40% off? Yes, you read correctly. Despite Hermes reporting steady profits, their scarves are being discounted by Bergdorf for the first time.

What styles are included: "Everything before fall and spring '09," an Hermes specialist reported. "We have a lot of back stock and they worked out with Hermes that we could put some styles on sale.

For those fluent in Hermes scarf talk, the following styles are just a few included in the discount: House of Characters, Mosaic, Lights of Paris, Walk in the Park, Golf Balls, Moroccan Saddle and Mogul.

To the Tents!

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week to showcase Derek Lam, Isaac Mizrahi, Tory Burch, Doo.Ri and more at Bryant Park

(NEW YORK) Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is nearly two months away, but the show schedule is already looking quite packed. Derek Lam has just confirmed that he will be showing in The Tents at Bryant Park on September 13 at 11 a.m.. This marks the designer's first show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. He is only one of several A-list designers to return to the venue this season. Narciso Rodriguez, Willow, Jen Kao, Tuleh, and Vivienne Tam, who have shown at various gallery spaces over the last several seasons, are also rumored to be returning to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Other Tents newcomers allegedly include Doo.Ri and Isaac Mizrahi. Tory Burch, who has traditionally presented her collection at her West Side showroom, has opted to show her first full-fledged runway show at Bryant Park. These designers will join Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week flagship brands such as Carolina Herrera, Diane von Furstenberg, BCBG, Michael Kors, Badgley Mischka. Tommy Hilfiger is expected to close the week with a Thursday night show celebrating his 25th anniversary as well as the opening of his new global flagship store at 681 Fifth Avenue. "We couldn't be more excited to welcome Isaac, Derek, Tory, Doo-Ri, and so many others to the Tents this season," said Fern Mallis, senior vice president of IMG Fashion. "In these times, designers are realizing that showing at Bryant Park is the way to go when they need to make the best possible impression." Many designers are still finalizing plans, and IMG Fashion expects to announce more additions to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week throughout July and August. "The economy is tough," Mallis conceded, "But come September, Bryant Park is going to rock."

Lacroix Savior?

Lacroix Saviour?

21 July 2009

CHRISTIAN LACROIX may be about to be rescued from bankruptcy, it was reported today. The couture-led luxury label, which entered administration last month is rumoured to have received a bail-out bid by restructuring firm Bernard Krief Consultants.

Christian Lacroix showed a reduced collection at Paris Couture Week earlier this month and - if the buy-out fails - Lacroix's owner, Falic Group, could initiate a dramatic restructuring plan which could see the workforce of 124 artisans slashed to just 12, Drapers Online reports. Bernard Krief Consultants - who attempted to purchase French fashion group Morgan when it entered administration - is expected to table its formal bid for Lacroix in a week's time.

A Big Night's in Store!

On Sept. 10th, NYC retailers will throw an all star bash for local shoppers

One shot to get shopper back to the racks? That's the idea behind Fashions Night Out. On September 10th from 6pm to 11pm., retailers across the city will host in store events -from live music to special appearances- to lure consumers who have been hesitant to spend in this economic climate.

We want Fashion's Night Out to get people back to having fun when they shop. Shopping shouldn't be depressing ." says Steven Kilb, executive director of the Council of fashion Designers of America. The CFDA is heading up the effort, along with NYC & Company, the City of New York and Vogue magazine. And though 300 local retailers like Bloomingdale's, William Rast and Jimmy Choo are already participating, Kolb hopes to recruit even more businesses throughout the five boroughs before Aug. 1 deadline.

"The night is about forgetting the competitive part of the industry and coming together as a community to show people what we have to offer, whether its a big chain or a small boutique," Kolb adds.
On the bill so far; Macy's will host a special appearance by designer Rachel Roy at its flagship Herald Square store, while the other seven NYC locations feature entertainment and fashion shows.
Bloomingdale's at 59th street will open a tribute to Hollywood heavyweights in an art exhibit, " leading Ladies and Leading men of the Silver Screen."
And Lord & Taylor will host a meet and greet with the hunks of the FDNY 2010 calender, proceeds of which will benefit the Staten Island University Hospital Burn Center.

But the festivities, which top the first day of New York Fashion Week, aren't just about the clothing industry.

Once we are registered, retailers have the option to sell the official Fashion's Night Out shirt, and 40% of the proceeds go to benefit the National September 11th Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center ," says Kolb.

There will also be a citywide clothing drive for NYC AIDS Fund; drop locations will be announced soon.

H&M Fall 2009 Ad Campaign

FIRST LOOK: Sasha Pivovarova for H&M Fall 2009

First look images of the H&M Fall 2009 ad campaign featuring Sasha Pivovarova shot by Terry Richardson, and also another campaign pic of Eniko Mihalik. This dress is currently in H&M stores, or at least the same style but in a different material. So excited for Fall!

TopShop Fall 2009 Collection

The lookbook from Topshop’s fall 2009 collection are slowly leaking out to the blogsphere. The collections include Horror Girls, Marianne, Manhattan Girl and Highland Fling. Each unique to their own, has a different theme, texture, color and style. My favorite being Marianne and Manhattan Girl.
Horror Girls is a quirky take on Hammer House of Horror movie dressing. The collection plays with cobweb-esque gothic lace and crushed velvet jacket lines. Materials are inspired by Victorian nightwear for blouses and corsets while shirts and jeans are inspired by 80s denim.
Mahattan Girl uses exaggerated shapes and show-stopping colours, fabrics and textures such as leopard print t-shirts adorned with gold studs and gem stones. The blend is such that these flashy outfits could be worn during the day.
Marianne collection is a fusion of vintage glamour and grunge, inspired from 70s groupies and dress-up box feel. It contains luxurious fabrics made to look antique such as tarnished sequins and matted faux fur. It has extravagant material mostly dark but with occasional bright splashes.
Highland Fling combines classic tartans in oversized black watch check but with a modern twist. The full Scotland themed collection includes Fair Isle patterned luxurious knitwear, quilted nature coloured casual coats and brushed cotton check shirts

Bag Borrow or Steal

"I think they meant it when they said you can't buy love. Now I know you can rent it A new lease you are my love, on life Be my life"

Featured in the Sex in the City movie, Carrie's personal assistant Louis (played by Jennifer hudson) dons an assortment of designer bags, the character rents the handbags from Bag Borrow or Steal. I decided to check the site out. Here's how it works; enjoy the designer accessory of your choice for a month a week or as long as you like for a small fee either weekely of monthly when you're done with it send it back.

While they have an awesome collection of handbags ranging in designers like BCBG to the most recent Chanel. I think the concept is great especially for girs like Louise on a budget. BUT, I am one hundred percent addicted to handbags and couldnt imagine having the caviar Chanel of my dreams and having to part with it. Also, what's considered the couture line of bags, the Louis Vuittons and Gucci's will run you about $350 a month. I've always thought why not put it on plastic and pay it off over time, yes, there will be interest a small amount depending on your card but atleast its an investment and you would have somehing to show for it after being paid.

Hermes Vintage Crocodile Kelly Handbag One of the original "It" bags, this Hermès "Kelly" bag is named after its most famous wearer, actress Grace Kelly. This version is made of luxurious genuine crocodile skin, and its keys come inside a detachable bag.

Bag Borrow or Steal have added a new eliment to the site, renting jewelry. BINGO! I think this is the best idea yet! Celebrities rent jewelry for events constantly so consider this site your personal stylist who will deliver gems to your home. Rent Kenneth Jay Lane costume jewelry for as little as $8 a month or a Vintage Kenneth Jay Lane Bib necklace seen below for around $100 a month

Or if you have a special event coming up where you would like to make a big statement why not say it in diamonds?? Designers like David Yurman, Alex Woo, and Vera Wang will ensure you look your best

1. David Yurman 15mm-square faceted olive quartz cushion clasped in a four-point 18kt gold setting. Each point is accented with pavé diamonds. Imported. Total carat weight: 0.13. Approx. stone diameter: 5/8"

2.Alex Woo Narissa Cuff Diamonds wink from the delicate coral-like fan of this yellow gold Alex Woo bracelet. This cuff's uneven edges give it a unique, hand-crafted look. Approx. band width: 2".

3.Vera Wang Japanese Akoya Pearl and Diamond Bow Necklace A sweet and sparkling platinum pave diamond bow completes Vera Wang's timeless Akoya pearl necklace. Approx. pearl diameter: 1/3". Approx. length: 16".

So You Think You Can…Be A Socialite?

Ever wish you knew the how-tos of being a socialite gal (also known as ”socials”) about town? It’s tough work and takes years of ruthless training (debutante balls, gallery openings, spa appointments–le sigh…). But The Fashion Bomb’s got a new fast-track course for those of you too impatient to get on to the right charity committees, cozy up to publicists for exclusive invitations, or buy that duplex on Park Avenue. So, what are the essentials for occupying this exalted perch on the social ladder?

1. Have a Go-To “Ladies Who Lunch” Outfit:

Socialite style is the perfect marriage of chic and quiet elegance: subtle, timeless, pieces that whisper “wealth” instead of screaming “rich!” A little daring is not unwelcome, and some socialites (like Zoe Kravitz) prefer a more bohemian style. Maggie Betts and Susan Fales-Hill, above, wear perfect examples of “Lunch” outfits (and don’t forget to reserve your lunch date at The Four Seasons dining room, where any social worth her salt goes to see and be seen).

2. Perfect Your Blasé Stare:

Practice diligently in the mirror, thinking thoughts like “I could so be on Roberto Cavalli’s yacht right now” or “Woe is me: another front row seat at Zac Posen.” The stare is all about projecting “I have better things to do but sure, I’ll indulge you and take a photo.” Then, of course, secretly scour socialite photog sites, like Patrick McMullan and New York Social Diary, the next day to see if you’ve got it down like Zoe and Genevieve Jones.

3. Develop a Signature Piece:

It’s important to have a fashion signature, whether it’s inventive evening clutches or headbands–a little stylish eccentricity adds some color to your social profile. Studio Museum in Harlem Director Thelma Golden is known for her bold jackets and coats, quite fitting given her artistic background. Ms. Golden is the perfect model of a career woman with socialite status, which leads us to…

4. Cultivate Accomplishments:

In this day and age, it’s OK to be smart and social (hey, not everyone’s parents can be multimillionaires). A successful career of your own lends your socialite sheen some purpose and depth. Some of the more accomplished socials include White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers, finance mogul Pamela Joyner, and fashion publicist Bonnie Morrison. Today’s socialite should have an interesting answer to the perennial conversation opener “And what do you do when you’re not front row at B. Michael?” (and if you don’t know who that is, well, I just can’t bother to tell you dahhhling…) ;-)

Finally, one of the most important requirements for flaunting your socialite status is…5. The Quiet Statement Bag:

So exclusive yet low-key that only other socials may know the brand, the bag must be big enough to fit your Smythson planner but small enough to carry easily in your manicured hands, have few to no embellishments, and, of course, be almost always black. Favorite socialite brands include Bottega Veneta (for their famous woven leather pattern), Hermès’ Birkin Bag, and, of course, the classic quilted Chanel Caviar bag. Take your cue from the above socials, actress-socialite Kerry Washington, and philanthropists Prudence Solomon Inzerillo and Grace Hightower De Niro.Ready to channel your socialite soignée but lack the trust fund? Here are a few options to indulge your inner social gal! Toodles, daaahlings…~Adri
